Hike & Stay

Burn off some stress -- and a pound
or two!!
Face it, hitting the gym for an hour a day on the
treadmill is good for you but that hour of "gerbil time" does
leave a little to be desired excitement wise. Getaway to the Old Town
Farm Inn and enjoy a two day guided hike and stay in Vermont's Green
Mountains. Guide will pack lunch and shoot photos of you along the way
(so you are both in all of the pictures). Two nights (Sun-Thurs)
B&B, two very different hiking adventures, five course dinner for
two one night prepared by chef Michiko, all for $299. Call

Get back to Nature
In our intensively time pressured society we miss the simple pleasure of
traveling through nature on foot. Vermont offers some of the nicest and most
varied hiking trails to be found anywhere.
Hikes can range from nearly flat "walks in the park" to very
strenuous climbs that would make Spiderman hesitate. The Old town Farm Inn will
be happy to arrange your hiking adventure, whether it be on your own (we can
supply maps) or with a guide. Your guide will carry water and lunch, so al you
have to worry about is enjoying your hike through the wonder of Vermont's Green
mountains.

Example Hikes
Crystal Cascade Falls
A moderately vigorous hike up into a ravine to an eighty foot cascade in a
natural vertical half pipe of metamorphic rock. Passes a smaller series of
cascades on the way and a rather beautiful gorge.
Crystal Cascade is a unique geological formation in North America known as a
ring dyke. The only other known instance of a ring dyke is in Norway. The
only way to see this cascade is to hike in.
For the more adventurous, continue to the summit (this is a fairly strenuous
hike) for breathtaking views of the Green and White Mountains and Connecticut
River Valley.

A cascading brook is always a nice place to take a rest. This is NOT Crystal
Cascade!
Healdville Trail (Okemo)
the Healdville Trail is a vigorous hike up the back side of Okemo Mountain
ending with a visit to the Okemo Mountain Fire tower which rises 75 feet above
the summit of Okemo Mountain in Ludlow. Break for lunch at the top of one of
Okemo's lifts.

In some places the stones have been arranged in staircases on
the steeper trails
Lowell Lake
A beautiful moderate hike around one of Vermont's most scenic Alpine ponds.
Lowell Lake Trail is not listed in any guidebook as of March 2001 and is not
marked on hiking maps, so it is a rare thing to meet others on this trail.

The best part of being at the top is that its all down hill
form there.
Springfield Lake Nature Area
An easy nearly level set of trails in the North Springfield Lake nature area.
the area is teeming with wildlife, most notable are the many various raptors
(birds of prey) that call the area home.
